Advertising of properties on Devon Home Choice
Please note that due to the ongoing effects of the Coronavirus there may continue to be some differences in the way that homes are advertised and let. Some homes may be advertised with priority being given to homeless households. Some properties may be withdrawn from advertising where they are required for emergency accommodation.
The process by which properties are offered and let to applicants currently might not be the same as prior to Covid 19. This is to ensure that both you and officers are complying with government guidelines and reducing the risk of transmission. This might lead to same delays in the letting process which will be explained to you at the time if successful in your bid.

There may also be fewer staff available in Local Authorities to process applications and changes. To help with continuing their service delivery, applicants are encouraged, if possible, to:-
- Please apply online, rather than by paper application, because it will be more likely to be processed at this time;
- If your communications preference is currently by letter, please consider changing it from letter to email and ensure that your email address is up-to-date; and
- Please either screenshot or scan; then email to the Devon Home Choice team of your local authority; the completed application forms and/or proofs of evidence e.g. Health & Wellbeing forms, Supporting Evidence forms, letters, etc.

Homes with extra support – also known as ‘extra care’ housing
Extra care housing allows people to live independently in their own homes, with the added benefit of flexible, on-site care and support.

Rent in advance
Almost all partner landlords in Devon Home Choice require successful applicants to pay rent in advance. This could be up to 8 weeks rent regardless of whether you have your rent covered by Housing Benefit.
Please think about saving to cover the rent in advance needed as soon as possible in case you are offered a property. You could have an offer withdrawn if you cannot provide the rent in advance.
